The Property Care Association is a trade body
which represents specialists in:
Structural waterproofing
Damp proofing
Timber preservation
Structural maintenance
Flooding
For over the past 71 years, the PCA has set the
standards for timber treatment and damp proofing
companies operating in the UK and overseas. Much more than basic ability is required when joining the PCA. Contractors must satisfy not only stringent tests on their skills, methodology and knowledge of safety and environmental legislation, but also on financial soundness. Contractors must work to an OFT approved Code of Practise, and are regularly asked to demonstrate these standards are being maintained. In the event of complaint arising, the association operates an arbitration scheme.
It is strongly recommended that a PCA member is used when choosing a reliable contractor among the many that are advertising.
To be in the PCA, unlike most trade bodies, it is not just a matter of paying a subsription, members have to meet strict criteria for employment and qualified staff, trading history, customer service and health, safety and environment protection. This involves a detailed application and an inspection by PCA technical staff at least once a month and following admission, an on-going regime of inspections for management procedures and workmanship standards.
